This Web site has been created to help schools analyze their state assessment
data and guide them in making data-based instructional decisions that
would support improved performance for all students.
This site from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources provides teachers
with the tools they need to incorporate Maryland's natural resources into
their curriculum and for their professional development. For K-12 students:
this site offers something fun to do, suggestions for an outdoor activity,
or help with homework. This site also includes a Chesapeake Bay bibliography,
an events calendar, and an outdoor resource guide.
This site provides real-time information on a wide spectrum of Bay data from MD, including salinity, temperature, levels of dissolved oxygen, pH, water clarity, algal levels and chlorophyll concentrations. Other resources include extensive, easy-to-understand background material to help the public to understand why the data is relevant, how to interpret it, and what Maryland is doing to restore the health of the Bays and their tributaries. There are a variety of materials applicable to the Bay watershed as well.
This site includes information for students and teachers about bay tributaries,
bay monitoring, bay grasses, etc. and various programs offered by MD DNR.

The National Aquarium in Baltimore seeks to stimulate interest in, develop knowledge about, and inspire stewardship of aquatic environments. Professional development and student programs are available.

The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center offers a number of hands-on
science and distance learning education programs for K-12 students, as
well as evening lectures for the general public. Through experiential
programs in various ecosystems, students and teachers will increase their
understanding of scientific research, the environment, and how human activities
influence ecosystems.

Since 1984, Parks & People Foundation has worked to improve the quality of life in Baltimore’s neighborhoods by targeting parks, green communities, clean streams, and youth projects.
Located in Millersville, Maryland, these 24 wooded acres overlooking the
Severn River are owned by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Trails
run through forests and marsh areas, allowing for diverse activities.
Rowboats and canoes are available at the waterfront; beehives, a weather
station, the marine science center, a marsh boardwalk, a demonstration
wildlife habitat, campfire areas, piers and open areas are also features
of the site. Special training allows teachers to utilize the Initiative
and Confidence Course or Lady Echo, a 25-foot research vessel. Arlington
Echo has six heated cabins which can house approximately 120 students
and adults. A full kitchen and dining hall support residential programs
of up to four nights. Some day programs are also available.
This museum features nine exhibit buildings on 18 waterfront acres in
scenic St. Michaels, in addition to the 1879 Hooper Strait lighthouse,
skipjack Rosie Parks, a working boatyard, and an interactive waterman's
shanty. Events include festivals, engaging special exhibitions, hands-on
boatbuilding classes, and outdoor summer concerts.
The Horn Point Environmental Education Center
in Cambridge, MD, has several field activities for students including
aquatics, astronomy, canoeing, water safety, conservation projects, field
studies, and more. Out of state groups can take advantage of the facilities'
dormitories.
The Living Classrooms Foundation has an extensive
listing of programs ranging from oyster restoration to seaport education
and shipboard programs. Click on programs then day & multi-day for a complete

The Anacostia Watershed Society can provide you and/or your group with a variety of education and restoration programs & events including: in-class instruction, tree & emergent vegetation plantings, river cleanups, storm drain stenciling, river tours, and a host of other programs.
The Wildfowl Trust of North America operates the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, a 500 acre preserve surrounded by the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and comprised of several distinct habitats. Programs for teachers and students are offered.
Under the Sea offers K-12 outreach programs about the Bay. This site has
information on the
programs, as well as pictures of many of the bay inhabitants that are
brought.

The purpose of Maryland's Environmental Education program is to enable students to make decisions and take actions that create and maintain an optimal relationship between themselves and the environment, and to preserve and protect the unique natural resources of Maryland, particularly those of the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.
MAEOE's mission is to encourage, train, and support Maryland educators to build a citizenry that understands and is responsibly engaged in promoting sustainability, addressing human needs and conserving the Earth's natural resources.
The ESEP offers exciting and innovative education and outreach programs and products that build directly on science research at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) and Maryland Sea Grant (MDSG). Through the ESEP, teachers, students and local citizens work side-by-side with scientists, explore authentic scientific datasets, and learn state-of-the-art research tools and techniques.
Chesapeake Biological Lab assists K-12 teachers in integrating results of University-based research in the marine sciences into their existing curricula through graduate courses, professional development workshops and various educational resources through the Maryland Sea Grant Extension Program.

environmental education efforts which combine classroom studies with the
use of best management practices at schools and involve the community.
These are noncompetitive awards to recognize and celebrate the achievement
of schools meeting strict environmental education criteria.
The Baltimore Ecosystem Study (BES) aims to understand metropolitan Baltimore as an ecological system. The program brings together researchers from the biological, physical, and social sciences to collect new data and synthesize existing information on how both the ecological and engineered systems of Baltimore work.

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is one of 13 constituent institutions of the University System of Maryland. The Center's programs are carried out at three laboratories located across the state: the Appalachian Laboratory in western Maryland, the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, in southern Maryland and the Horn Point Laboratory on the Delmarva Peninsula. UMCES is also responsible for the administration of the Maryland Sea Grant College program. While the Center’s research and science application activities emphasize the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed, its reach extends nationally and world-wide to distant seas and lands.
